Q. What is the Register?
The Register serves as the unofficial statistics archive for Weaverball, a FPS BBPro league that has been simulating
since 1997. Inspired by baseball-reference.com, and developed by Edwin Mercado (me), the Register attempts to provide
a similar wealth of information for the Weaver League.
Q. What tools did you use to create the Register?
The Register is a web database application powered by mysql and php. perl scripts handle parsing BBPro's raw HTML
pages into colon-delimited text files.
Q. Why are the Register pages so plain?
The Register pages are pretty vanilla for 3 reasons: 1) speed, 2) using preformatted text simplifies layout, and 3) for
this kind of application, the content is what really stands out and makes the pages shine.
Q. I have a {bug|comment|suggestion} for the Register. How can I report it?
Feel free to email me at cigars -a|t- weaverball c@m if you have any questions, comments, etc.
Q. Why are the 1997 and 1998 season stats incomplete?
1997 and 1998 are now known as the "early days" of the Weaver League in terms of statkeeping, similar to the way we think
of MLB in the pre-1900s. Back then, the commish archived only a few of the league's pages at season's end: leaderboards,
association history, and the final standings. Nowadays, the commish archives nearly all of the HTML generated by BBPro.
To compensate for the missing data, I have gone back and created artificial season statlines by hand. These season
statlines are compiled from the top10 leaderboards, and any unknown statistical value is left blank. To qualify for rate
stats, I have assigned artificial values of 500 AB for batters, and 150 IP for pitchers; starters have one start, while
relievers have one appearance. 1997 and 1998 stats do show up on the yearly/season leaderboards but are not included in
the position or franchise summations.
Q. Why are the 2000 season stats incomplete?
The 2000 season stats were clobbered when the final statfiles were mistakenly archived during the offseason rather than
on the last day of the regular season. We were able to regenerate most of them, though, by subtracting the 1999 year-end
career stats from the 2000 year-end career stats. Some of the rate stats could not be calculated, however, due to
insufficient data.
Q. Why do so many batters in the 2034 season have > 162 games played?
The 2034 season was the first one simulated using a virtual machine rather than an actual Win98 hardware PC.
I think there may have been a glitch where several days' worth of individual game stats were counted twice
in compiling season totals.
Q. Why are the position/franchise summations missing some of the rate stats, eg. LHP/RHP/Pct/LHB/RHB ?
The Register parses the individual *rost.htm and *stat.htm files produced by BBPro. Since these files do not contain any
added breakdown data, it is impossible to calculate these stats.
Q. For player 'X', why do the stat values in the position/franchise summations not match up with his career numbers?
This is probably due to the fact that the 1997 and 1998 season stats are not included in the position or franchise
summations. Since the majority of Weaver players those two years had incomplete statlines, I felt that omitting those
seasons would be better for statistical accuracy.
Q. Are there plans to add full postseason statlines?
Probably not. Postseason statlines have to be compiled by hand, and this is a very dull, time-consuming process. After
compiling the data for one series, I quickly realized that it would be impractical to generate data for the entire
postseason year after year.
